Transition 2019

With the departure of Fr. Evan in early March of 2019, we began the search for new leadership in our church. This is not a quick process, but a lesson in refection and an assessment of who we are and who we want to be. Below are the step we will be taking in during this transition.

Communication between all members and groups within our congregation. This is our first focus.  Without a constant flow of communication, decisions are often made in the “inner sanctum” by only a “chosen few”.  Not the way to help our church thrive.  Our first communication – a letter, included information about the Farewell Reception for our former Rector and the planned Stations of the Cross and dinner each Friday evening during Lent.

Identification of the experience, talents and potential of all individuals within our church.  We have a wealth of talent and skills lurking in our midst.  The problem is that we don’t even know what we’ve got.  Our Junior Wardens have identified two things which we need help with now: we need someone to step up and be willing to coordinate the maintenance of the church yard, we also need a few volunteers to repaint the church kitchen and bathrooms. 

Assessment of who we are as a church.  Are we a more traditional and staid religious organization, or are we a warm, inviting entity more interested in the needs of our members than strict adherence to past precedence and law, or some combination of the two extremes?  We are St. Andrews.

Identification of the needs of our church going forward.  One glaring need we know we have, is to increase our attendance and our church membership. The survival of our church literally rests on this.  Call someone you have not seen in church for awhile or write a short note to them.  Tell them they have been missed and welcome them back.

Identification of the needs of our community, and the Episcopal Church as a whole.  The Vestry is presently evaluating the needs of our community and of the Episcopal Church as a whole.  The Family Promise Program has already begun to address some of these needs.

St. Andrew’s Church Vestry has been and is currently seeking the guidance of our Lord and Holy Spirit as we travel through the search process in calling a new rector. Bishop Rickel has appointed The Rev. Alissa Newton as the consultant for St. Andrew’s during the search process. Alissa is the Vicar at St. Columba’s Church in Kent. As we walk through the search process the parish will be given updates on a regular basis. We will soon have an Interim Priest who will be with St. Andrew’s during the search process. The consultant is working with the Bishop on this matter. The following committees have been selected by the vestry to lead this search. This is a very important time for our parish and your prayers guide each of us. As we walk through the search process and you have questions or concerns please feel free to contact a member of the Vestry or one of the Wardens. We will listen.
